Learning apps are the latest tools employed by schools to teach children different concepts. Both teachers and parents have started believing that teaching through apps help the kids understand better and trust that these apps are very good learning opportunities. The pictorial depiction of the subject is believed to create a curiosity among children.
Teachers following this method of teaching assume that it's a "learn while you play" technic, and enables to gain and retain the attention of kids. The animations involved gives the kids a feel of playing games, thereby evoking an interest among the children to learn something new with the experience of playing a video game. The kids also prefer learning through learning apps that are available rather than following the conventional methods.
Though learning apps are beneficial in a way, it has several disadvantages. The effectiveness of these apps is still dubious. According to recent studies, children learning from conventional methods tend to be more responsive to different tests and are more spontaneous in answering different questions posted to them when compared to kids learning from educational apps. The logical thinking process gained through conventional methods remains unbeatable, these apps are in fact reducing the logical thinking capacity of kids. It also proves to be a major distraction for children, and is as addictive as video games. Handling such apps give children the learning to use devices such as mobile phones, iPad and laptops. This might lead to unwanted trouble such as downloading unsafe games and sharing personal details on social media. Before the children are introduced to different apps, it is always ideal to check if its beneficial and safe. Both parents and teachers have to ensure that the kids are exposed to these apps only for a limited time under their guidance.
